Discussion Topic: Renesmee special effects

There’s been lots of info hitting the internet lately to explain how Renesmee would be portrayed in Breaking Dawn. Mackenzie Foy is officially cast as Renesmee, but other young actresses of varying ages have been hired to play her, as well. It looks like Mackenzie’s face will be superimposed on the other actors’ bodies to show her at different ages and sizes. If you saw The Social Network, their effects company did something similar to portray the Winklevoss twins.

Do you think this is the best way to portray Renesmee in the film? Would you rather have a full CGI character or would you want to just see different actors in the role, despite not looking too much alike?

I think a real baby would be alot better, but the aging progression is going to be the hardest..
So to me its going to be amazing to see how they do this progression..

i like what they are doing because renesmee will have the same face no matter what. im happy they arent doing a full cgi renesmee because that would probably just look to fake.

Anything that flows with the book & accomplishes making the character look as described by Stephanie Meyer works for me. So far, all the other movies have VISUALLY been amazing in following the books' descriptions. (The only disappointments I've had has been because of the changes in script- You know leaving out THIS- replacing “things” with THAT-or, leaving THEM out entirely) I'm sure these talented people can create a beautiful Renesmee (at each stage of her growth) that we will fall in love with. By the end of the movie, each of us will probably walk out hoping we're blessed to have babies just as beautiful as Renesmee.

I have been blessed! My daughter is BEAUTIFUL!! xx

i'm all for special FX cuz if they go full CGI i know it'll look fake. yes, the tech is a lot better than, say, it was when they made “Interview with the Vampire” but even now, they can't make up a full baby that looks really real. by the end of BD, Renesmee's supposed look 8 to 10 yrs old. Mackenzie looks already that so i'm guessing they need FX for when Nessie(yeah i like the nickname) is/looks younger. cuz there's no way they can get a live baby who is attentive and aware of her surroundings

i have already been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters couldn't ask for any more

I'm glad they aren't using full CGI because if they did Renesmee wouldn't look real enough. As a 12-year-old girl, Twilight is pretty much real to me. It would completely destory it for me and probably every other Twihard if Renesmee was a fully CGI character as she would look like the dolls I played with as a little girl. Mackenzie Foy will portray the perfect Renesmee. She even looks a bit like Rob and Kristen. No CGI could beat that. Let's hope that the Special Effects crew do I good job shifting Mackenzie's face onto another girl's body to make it look completely amazing. I'm sure they will.

I agree, a full CGI would look really bad, even though effects are top notch these days they still are not good enought for Breaking Dawn. It would be awkward too, Kristen walking around holding a blue screen with her, would be funny.

Just like taylor in that lycra blue suit :p

I love that idea. Has anyone seen Tron Legacy? It was just a little too noticeable there, hopefully its just a bit better…..which I think it will be considering how real the wolves look.

I like the idea, if I remember correctly that's the same type of effect they used in Alice in Wonderland to create tweedle dee and tweedle dum. They had one actor and another person who acted as a prop more or less…he was an extra that they used so they could film the one guy as both tweedles. Will they be doing any age effects on Mackenzie though? because she looks a little old to be playing a baby-3 or 4 year old. I hope they don't mess this one up. The movies have all been okay but not quite up to par with expectations.
