3 Ways ‘Twilight’ Would Have Been Different if Michelle Trachtenberg Had Been Bella

Could you imagine? I don’t know if I would even want to! Read the rest from Zimbio below:

Kristen Stewart skyrocketed to fame when she was cast as Bella Swan in the Twilight film series, but Michelle Trachtenberg recently revealed that she could have nabbed the role.

“There was definitely interest here and there because there’s only so few pale girls in Hollywood,” the 26-year-old actress told US Weekly when she attended the grand opening of LOLA in New York City on Wednesday night.

“I’ve known [director] Catherine Hardwicke since the movie Thirteen,” she added. “I was actually supposed to star in that, but I was on Buffy at the time.” Hardwicke, of course,  directed the first Twilight film and cast KStew in the highly coveted Bella role.

Trachtenberg said that her Buffy shooting schedule was the main reason why she never got to play Bella Swan. But if the stars had aligned and schedules had permitted, here are three ways that we think the Twilight Saga and all of its surrounding hysteria would have been different.

1. No Robert Pattinson

After Hardwicke cast Kristen Stewart as Bella, the actress got to read with all of the Edward Cullen hopefuls. When Hardwicke had trouble making her final decision, Stewart lobbied for Rob to get the role. “Are you kidding me!? Its such an obvious choice!” she recounted telling Hardwicke. “It couldn’t have been better. It was sort of perfect.”

As for Rob, he might not have even gone to the audition if it hadn’t been for Stewart. “Kristen is the best actress of our generation and that’s why I wanted to do this movie,” he told MTV News back in 2008. “I don’t know why she is. She’s just better than everybody else.”

2. Taylor Lautner Might Have Been Recast

After Twilight, rumors were rampant that the role of Jacob Black, Bella’s werewolf best friend, would be recast. Impossible as it may seem now, Taylor Lautner was thought to be too young and too skinny to undergo Jacob’s transition from boy to wolf man.

26-year-old Trachtenberg is seven years older than Lautner, while KStew is only two years older. That five year age difference could have made all the difference in the world when producers were considering whether the then 16-year-old Lautner was the right guy for theNew Moon gig. Imagine a world without Taylor Lautner’s rock hard abs. Tragic, no?

3. A Less Successful Twilight Saga

The Twilight novels were already wildly popular bestsellers when the movies were made, so the film franchise was always going to be successful. But the undercover romance that blossomed between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson on the set of New Moon (and if you believe the rumors, probably even earlier than that) certainly sent the hype machine into overdrive.

Every tabloid in the world wanted a piece of their secret vampire love and photos of the Twilightstars were everywhere. That kind of publicity is absolutely priceless, and the Twilight films have undoubtedly reaped the benefits of the public’s insatiable desire to watch Rob and Kristen (as Edward and Bella) make googly eyes at each other. The movies would still have been very successful if Michelle Trachtenberg had been Bella, but we don’t think they’d be quite as mind-blowingly huge.

I don't think it would have been as successful because it is the chemistry of this cast that makes the  movies so successful.   It's going to take a while before there is another franchise as successful as Twilight and HP.

I agree.  I'll be perfectly honest that I wasn't that impressed with the first film(love it more every time I watch it now but then, not so much)  I think I read all 4 books in less than 2 weeks in September of 08'. But it was the early rumors coming out of the New Moon set about Kristen and Rob that really propelled my interest in the rest of the series of movies.  I hate how they get paparazzi stalked but half of the draw of this series for me and my friends is the idea that we might get a glimpse of their real relationship in the movies. Hate away, but that's how I feel.

Of course it wouldn't be successful if that Michelle person got the role of Bella she's not even pretty AND i don't why she telling people she got have been Bella heeeeeeeellllllooooo …… who CARES u didn't get it  MOVE on!!

  • Tammy

I so agree. If anyone else would have been cast it def. would not have been as successful. Rob and Kristen made these movies come to life. I couldn't see anyone else as Jacob either. I'm strictly Team Edward/Bella. But, I love Taylor too. I think it would have sucked without our Rob, Kristen and Taylor not to mention the rest of the Cullen's……xoxox

  • Tammy

It was def. because of Rob and Kristen's CHEMISTRY from the beginning that made it believable and real for all the FANS! They are amazing. I will continue to follow them as long as they keep acting. I always liked Kristen before Twilight and when Rob came about….I went back and watched and bought all of his movies as well. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!!! . Their Love for each other was undeniable. It was seen on screen and off….They are perfect. So, GLAD KRISTEN FOUGHT FOR ROBERT!!!! Not to mention Taylor too!

  • Tammy

That Michelle never had a chance against KRISTEN STEWART….she is the BEST of her GENERATION!!!! xoxo

Of course the movies wouldn't have been successful. Michelle just doesn't fit the role they way KStew does. It's not like we care now though, the movies are done (i know the last one isnt out yet but they have finished filming it) and no one could ever had been a better Bella than Kristen :) Anyway Rob wouldn't have done the movie if Michelle was in it so we are lucky that she had other commitments. KStew and RPattz r so cute together :D

The thing that people dont realize is that it was not only Catherine Hardwicks desicion for the actors in those roles, BUT STEPHENIE MEYER had rights to pick the actors. She is the only one who was able to really get a feel for what each actor brought and these actors were the perfect fit in her opinion. GET OVER IT! I LOVE THE OUTCOME OF THE MOVIE FRANCHISE ALONG WITH EACH ACTOR THAT WAS CHOSEN. STOP HATING!

  • Kristelfabul

i dont like this michelle also..she doesn't fit for the role bella..and she is sooo old also for my edward..only this kstew is the best for this role!! got it catherine hardwick????

  • Gyleches

This is so pathetic. Why bring this up now. Sounds like somebody isn't getting enough attention. Catherine WANTED Kristen as Bella so what Michelle says is so unnecessary and petty.

  • godsgirl31400

I think it would have been so different if Kristen Stewart wasn't Bella. I think the chemistry between her and Rob is what made it soo successful. They are very passionate. :) Michelle doesn't fit the Bella role to me anyway…she just doesn't look like a Bella no offense to her

  • Shionablack

True like hell. Hahaha there is still some people who believe that they can Become Vampires and I met this girl who had tried (obviously unsuccessful) to make a hocrux ??  Waahah And that to by killing a beetle. I believe the movie was totally realistic for people to be this obsessed. So Kristen and Robert RULE. And I 4 one wouldn't be able to live without my Jacob Black

  • Lexis

i think the cast was perfect it all fit together perfectly if it would have been diffrent i probably would'nt have liked it as much as i do…

  • godsgirl31400

I know exactly what you mean..I wasn't too into it until I heard about their relationship off set
